10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects

outdoor spring cleaning

Spring cleaning is not always fun for many of us. But it is important. As the winter come to an end and we begin looking forward to spring and warmer weather, something within us tells us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and getting rid of things we’ve collected over the winter.

But who says spring cleaning is limited to the inside of a home?
The outside of your house could probably use a little refreshing after a cold, dreary winter, too!

It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning

Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will drastically improve the curb appeal of your house in Oceanside, and, more importantly, will offer much-needed maintenance and upkeep that will save you money over the years ahead.

1. Gutter Cleaning

Spring is the best time to clean your gutters, because a lot of leaves and debris accumulated during the fall and winter. Pollen is at its highest during spring, making a mess in your gutters and downspouts if they aren’t cleaned.

Plus, bugs and critters are scavenging for places to build their homes during spring, so getting your gutters cleaned will help to prevent an infestation in your home.

Gutter cleaning consists of cleaning the inside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew and stains and returning them to a nice appearance.

2. Window Cleaning

Residential window cleaning is a must for spring cleaning. First floor windows will not cause you much of a headache, but any second and third floor windows are a bit tougher to reach.

Cleaning windows by hand is a hard chore, and will require a lot of tools, not to mention going up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your exterior windows is the best way to get the panes and the outer frame clean.

3. Pressure Washing

You aren’t going to want clean gutters and clean windows on a dirty home. Which means you are going to want to pressure wash your house too!

Pressure washing is fast, effective and doesn’t cost very much. You can pressure clean your home, outdoor furniture, patios, wood and stone porches and walkways with very little effort. It will remove dirt and mud so they will not permanently stain your house, and you can also prevent the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.

4. Driveway Cleaning

Clearing off your home’s driveway and giving it a good cleaning might seem counter-productive because you will still be driving on it, but actually, a clean, maintained driveway can increase the curb appeal of your house.

A professional pressure washing service will do wonders when it comes to driveway cleaning, whether it is concrete, asphalt, stone or another material. Also consider adding a gravel or mulch border to your home’s driveway to really help it pop!

5. Patio Cleaning

Your home’s patio gets the most use throughout the summer, so it can be easy to forget about it during the winter when you aren’t doing as much outdoor entertaining, relaxing or grilling. Your patio can be in bad condition the first time you go onto it in spring.

Soap and water – and a little hard work – can sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if you see signs of mold or mildew, you might need to consider a more serious option, like professional power washing, to guarantee that friends and family can enjoy your patio all summer long.

6. Roof Cleaning

Mold and moss are common home roof problems in Oceanside. While you’re cleaning the outside of your house, it is an excellent time to pressure clean your home’s roof as well, but you will need to use a different method than the one you use for most of your home’s exterior.

If you start to see streaks on your home’s roof, algae is most likely the cause. Moss is usually obvious, too. These contaminants can’t be scrubbed off shingles, nor can you pressure wash the roof. Both of these methods will ruin the shingles on your home’s roof.

The best process for roof cleaning is to mist the shingles with a half-water, half-bleach solution and then leave it sit. This solution will kill any organisms on your home’s roof without reducing its lifespan.

7. Tidy up the Front

The front of your house is going to be what most people passing by see, so try to make the best impression possible for visitors, neighbors and for yourself! Coming home to a beautiful exterior will instantly improve your day, and will even motivate you to spend a lot more time outside.

Clean your front porch with soap and water or a good pressure wash. Clean cobwebs and mud off of the front porch, and consider painting it a new color for a really fresh look! Clean forgotten areas like the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.

8. Organize Garden Tools

You will be spending a lot more time outside, so spring is an excellent opportunity to organize everything you will need for outdoor chores.

Gardening tools as well as pool care equipment must all have an exact place outside your house – a place that it is safe from weather and not in sight so it is not a constant eyesore to anyone. Taking the time to organize in the spring will allow you to appreciate the outside of your house so much more during the time of year that you are going to spend the most time outside.

9. Lawn Care & Landscaping

Your lawn, trees and bushes make a huge impact on the overall look of your house.

Get rid of weeds near your flower beds and walkways, till up places where you might be planting in the future and brush off walkways. You can also spray pre-emergent weed poison to make yard care easier on yourself throughout the next few months. Trim all bushes too.

10. Clean the Grill

After being unused for several months, your grill could use a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food from your grill are unappetizing, but they can also make you and your family ill.

Wipe it down to remove leftover ash, then scrub the grates with a plastic scrubber or grill brush (so you do not leave behind metal particles that can get into food) and a detergent or degreaser.

You could probably finish these jobs over the course of a few weekends but it will be a lot of hard work. Instead, give us a call!
